Binary storage interpretation

Gibibyte (GiB) is binary: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Operating systems often report volume sizes in GiB even when vendors market in GB.

GB versus GiB gap

The difference is small at low sizes but notable on large arrays and backups. Keep units explicit in capacity reports.
